There could be a number of reasons why you need your tyre repairing or replacing. It could be that you have driven over a sharp object such as a nail or piece of glass that has got embedded in your tyre. Over time this causes it to wear down and you’d need your tyre replacing.

If you believe you have a puncture and your tyre isn’t quite flat, there are a few things to look out for. You may realise your steering has become difficult, the car may feel wobbly, the car may pull to the left or right or if the tyre has something lodged in it, you might hear a ticking noise. Other instances however could be when you bring your car in for an MOT and service and the tread is too low. All cars, goods vehicles, trailers and caravan’s tyres by law must have a minimum of 1.6mm tread depth throughout a continuous band of the tyre.

If your tyre tread is too low, by law you need new tyres however, it is recommended to change your tyres when they get to 2mm to be on the safe side. Many customers opt for new tyres before autumn and winter. This is because the weather is more extreme and it is a safer option when there is more water, ice and snow on the ground.

There are a few things that can cause your tyres to wear such as driving style (excessive breaking), position of the tyres - tyres on the driven wheels will wear more quickly and more so on front wheel drive cars, speed - driving at high speeds increases temperature and wear, load - excessive load puts more pressure on tyres and alignment - tyres will need replacing more quickly if the wheel alignment is incorrect.
